Karen was born in New Jersey, a middle child with four siblings. She migrated Texas to attend bible college and eventually moved to San Diego, CA. Over the next several years she embraced various entrepreneurial pursuits including Graphic Design, Government Contract Development and owned two travel agencies on Coronado Island, CA. She pursued degrees in Business, Information Technology, and in 2005 obtained her Masters in Education.
Her travels around the globe provided a unique view of the nutritional atmosphere provided by many countries. The lack of stimulating nutritional education available in the United States was overwhelming. Childhood diabetes and obesity are running rampant and few seem to take serious notice. The proliferation of fast food companies and their international migration resulting in a negative health impact prompted her desire to make a difference.
Not one to be held down very long, while nursing a flu, Karen designed and crafted a gift for a friend, an avid gardener. The gift was so well received many of her friends encouraged her to pursue a patent. She received a US Patent in 2018 on the product that catapulted her creative instincts. She began research and compiled a children’s book to educate, inspire, and empower children (of all ages) to develop lifelong healthy eating habits through home gardening regardless of age, environment, or economic situation. Willie Weed’s Miracle Garden was born.
Willie Weed was Karen’s Maternal Grand Father, a slight, gentle man of French and German decent. Although he wasn’t a gardener, his fondness for unique mechanical toys would later be inspiration for Karen’s creative instincts and compulsive fight for the underdog,
Karen currently resides in Washington State. Her strong faith has been her guide throughout her adult life and she remains active in her local church today.
It is Karen’s hope that Willie Weeds Miracle Garden will turn the page on childhood diabetes and obesity in her lifetime.
