About The Author
A lifelong Catholic, Jerome D. Gilmartin received a B.S. Degree, with majors in psychology and philosophy, from the University of Scranton in 1959. For the next two years he studied psychology at Fordham Graduate School, Bronx, NY, followed by two years of military service. He later began what would become a 20-year career in human resources with an international telecommunications corporation. After a subsequent seven years as a psychological services associate at a State center for the mentally retarded in Pennsylvania, he retired in 2001. It was in that year that he published the first edition of the 7-Step Reason to be Catholic.
His concern soon deepened that the great exodus of Catholics from the Church was largely the result of preaching based on indefensible, doubt-inducing, post-Vatican II seminary and university instruction that the four Evangelists probably did not write the Gospels; they were probably written anonymously a generation later.
This republished second edition, including articles of his published in the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars Quarterly and Christian Order magazine, arms readers with the compelling historical and other evidence pointing to apostles Matthew and John, as well as Mark and Luke as writers of the Gospels.
Mr. Gilmartin has presented his book as a guest on Johnette Benkovic Williams’ program on EWTN TV, on Brian Patrick’s Son Rise Morning Show on EWTN Radio, on Our Faith, our Diocese on CTV (Scranton Diocese), at annual catechetical conferences in the Scranton and Harrisburg, PA Dioceses. For 10 years Mr. Gilmartin hosted “In Love of Christ,” a weekly program on JMJ Catholic Radio which brings EWTN and local Catholic to much of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. He served as a member of the Apologetics Committee of the Diocese of Scranton, as well as in RCIA, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, as a Lector, as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, as amember of the Scranton chapter of the Men of the Sacred Heart, as a member of the JMJ Catholic Radio advisory committee, as a catechetics teacher and as a member of the Catholic Outreach team at a State prison. He and Marie, his dear wife of 56 years reside in Madison Township, PA and are members of St. Eulalia Roman Catholic Parish in Roaring Brook, PA. Mr. Gilmartin and his wife have two daughters, both married, two granddaughters and two daughters who have been in Heaven since soon after their premature birth and Baptism.
